Ford Explorer Engine Options

When you’re searching for a vehicle with the towing power you need, it’s a good idea to consider each vehicle’s available engines, first! There are three Ford Explorer engines available to Schaumburg area shoppers:

  • 3.5L V6: With the help of Ti-VCT (twin independent variable camshaft timing), this engine produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, and delivers solid performance across low, medium, and high power ranges.
  • 2.3L EcoBoost® 4-Cylinder: This engine earns up to 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway and is capable of 280 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
  • 3.5L EcoBoost® V6: Thanks to turbocharging and direct injection, this 3.5L delivers a powerful 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on the Explorer Sport and Platinum trim levels.

Ford Explorer Towing Packages

These optional towing packages will give you the confidence to drive through Crystal Lake with a medium-sized load in tow:

  • Class II Trailer Tow Package: When your Ford Explorer with a 2.3L engine is backed by this package, you’ll have everything required to tow up to 3,000 pounds, with a frame-mounted hitch and wiring harness included.
  • Class III Trailer Tow Package: This package requires a 3.5L V6 engine, and it features an engine cooler, four- and seven-pin trailer connectors, and a frame-mounted hitch. This is a great option if you need to tow heavier loads as it can handle up to 5,000 pounds.

Towing Safety Features

Ford offers some of the most intelligent towing safety features in the industry — and the Ford Explorer is no exception. Check out these highlights:

  • Intelligent 4WD with Terrain Management System™: Your Ford Explorer is a force to be reckoned with on Dundee roads when you have this system that allows you to switch between Normal, Mud/Rut, Sand, or Grass/Gravel/Snow modes.
  • AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™: With AdvanceTrac® with RSC™, yaw and roll rates are monitored using gyroscopic sensors, allowing the vehicle to retain control when a wheel-slip, understeer, or oversteer take place. You’ll also have Curve Control, which slows the vehicle’s speed when maneuvering tight corners.
